Just so you know

You can click on any picture for an enlarged version. With some browsers you can toggle into full screen mode using F11 on your keyboard; the larger the browser window, the bigger the picture is likely.

The browser you use will either display the larger picture in a new web page, which on closing returns you to this web site, or more normally, a popup window appears with a dark blue background.

In the latter case the picture comes with a footer title and hyperlinks to explore. However, clicking on the picture itself will either close the window or show further views on the subject.

Remember that without a decent broadband connection, hyperlinks to pictures may take some time to appear.

LCC TYPE E/3 AND HR/2 DOUBLE DECK TRAMCAR
6th July 2016

LCC type E/3 and HR/2 Double Deck Tramcar in 1/43rd scale In 1930/31 the LCC built a fleet of E/3 all metal cars with the fleet numbers 1904 - 2003 fitted with maximum traction 2 motor trucks. A further batch of HR/2 cars with equal wheel 4 motor trucks and fleet numbers 101- 159 were built but without overhead trolley poles. Also a batch of HR/2 cars with the same body but without driver's screens fleet numbers 1854-1903 were built. The bulk of these cars were in service to the end of the system in 1952.

The body kit is complete with every detail [not just a body shell] including from the roof down, seating, stairs, controllers and lifeguards - just buy, paint, glaze and assemble.

Cost of the body kit in i.materialise [smooth finish] is £335.75 and from Shapeways £255.00 [rough finish]. Also available from Terry Russell Trams is a RTR motored truck, trolley pole and hand brakes for £165.00. Also available is a destination/advert pack; ask for a quotation to suit your own personal requirements.

OPEN FRONTED LCC E/1 1929/30 "SUBWAY TRAMCAR" & 1928 HR/1 TRAMCAR
14th May 2016

Open Fronted LCC E/1 1929/30 "Subway" & 1928 HR/1 Tramcars in 1/43rd scale In 1928 the LCC built a prototype "Hilly Route" car designated HR/1 with the fleet number 1852 fitted with equal-wheel 4 motor trucks as depicted in the model shown. As a result of this, 50 identical bodies were built by English Electric in 1929 fleet numbered 552-601 designated class E/1 and fitted with standard LCC maximum-traction trucks. Both these cars can be built from this kit.

The body kit is complete with every detail [not just a body shell] including from the roof down, seating, stairs, controllers and lifeguards - just buy, paint, glaze and assemble. Model photo is of HR/1 1852. The only difference from the open fronted E/1 is the trucks. By 1940 all the 500 class cars had been fitted with driver's screens and most of them ran in service until the end of London's trams and that is the subject of our second kit.

Unfortunately 1852 was lost in the 1940 bombing of the city.

Cost of the body kit £225.00. Also available from Terry Russell Trams are RTR motored trucks, trolley poles, hand brakes and a destination/advert pack costing £165.00 including P&P. Please state which car you will be building.

LCC EXPERIMENTAL CAR NUMBER 1 "Bluebird"
14th May 2016

LCC experimental car #1 "Bluebird" in 1/43rd scale In 1930 the LCC built a modern prototype car with the fleet number 1 fitted with equal-wheel 4 motor trucks as depicted in the model shown. It was intended to be the fore-runner of a fleet of such cars thwarted by the creation of the LPTB in 1933.

The body kit is complete with every detail [not just a body shell] including from the roof down, seating, stairs, controllers and lifeguards - just buy, paint, glaze and assemble.

Cost of the body kit in i.materialise [smooth finish] is £363.00 and from Shapeways £267.00 [rough finish]. Also from Terry Russell Trams are RTR motored trucks, trolley poles, hand brakes and a destination/advert pack. Cost £165.00 including P&P.

When 'Bluebird' was acquired by London Transport, the car was repainted in the corporate red and cream. The body was not changed in any way so the kit is correct for this state. Click on the image above to view the model in 'Bluebird' livery and then click on the displayed image to see the same model in 'Red and Cream'.

In the build of my own model, I have gilded the lily by adding tinned copper wire drop window frames and had the hand-made entrance grab rails nickel plated. I am absolutely delighted with the model and am proud to have it running on my layout.

LONDON TRANSPORT E/1 MODEL TRAM FROM SHAPEWAYS
Updated 3rd July 2014

This will be the ultimate in a nylon plastic 3D model tramcar body kit, the result of a combination of the skills of ace 3D draughtsman Tony Heselden, Terry Russell's knowledge of the construction of London trams and not forgetting Tony Tieuli's enthusiasm and exposure on Facebook that has created sufficient interest for this 1/43rd scale 500 class London E/1 tramcar to go into production. This is an '0' gauge model kit with NO alternative scales available or planned.

The prototype build of an '0' Gauge kit of London E/1 tram Terry Russell has built this model as it came out of the box with the only frills being his hand brakes, trucks and trolley poles from stock. In addition he has made trolley hooks so the trolleys can be stowed [there are four].

Click on the adjacent picture to access a sequence of pictures showing this model being built.

The complexity of taxes, carriage and exchange rates for different countries makes it necessary to order the body kit direct from www.shapeways.com where the amount payable will be calculated for you. There are three items to buy: body, roof and interior seating. UK purchasers will find the sum payable is €198.44 before proceeding to the checkout. That works out to around £159.00. Your order with Shapeways should look something like this image.

If you want a non-working model, contact Terry Russell for advice of what additional items to buy.

For a working model you will need to order from Terry Russell Trams the following: C5 Truck Set Bogie for overhead/2-rail/DCC, HB1 Hand Brake 1 pair, DT2 Trolley Pole Qty 2, TF1 Two LONDON TRANSPORT and four 0-9 gold/black numerals and a Advertisements/Destination/Route Board Pack. Order these items using the 'Pay Now' button below will cost £179.76 including P&P. Dave Wilsher produced the selection of advertisements and included one for WISK; just right for a docklands route!

The E/1 body shell was also used for car #1852 fitted with equal wheel 4 motor trucks and was classified HR/1, [Click on the camera icon for prototype pictures]. To model this car, specify the HR/2 truck set [Ref C7] on your order. The truck substitution doesn't alter the pricing. With acknowledgments to Colin Withey for this information.

To order Terry Russell Trams accessories for the E/1 model tram from Shapeways, please use the specially crafted 'Pay Now' button to the left. Payment can be made using your Credit/Debit Card or PayPal. The 'Note to Seller' feature should be used to substitute the C7 Truck Set [if modelling car #1852] instead of the normally supplied C5 Truck Set.
